Junior Club of the Week - Sorrento-Duncraig JFC

For Subiaco’s Round 22 clash against East Fremantle on Saturday 22nd August at Medibank Stadium, Sorrento Duncraig Junior Football Club will feature as the WAFL Junior Club of the Week.

Sorrento Duncraig Junior Football Club (SDJFC) is based in Perth's Northern suburbs with its home at Seacrest Park in Sorrento. The club caters for Auskick (Pre Primary - Year 3) with the Saturday morning Auskick program, Modifieds (Year 4 - Year 7) and Youth (Year 8 - Year 12) competitions that compete on Sundays. The club's main catchment areas include Sorrento, Duncraig, Marmion, Hillarys and Padbury.

The Sorrento-Duncraig Junior Football Club formed in 1971 as Sorrento/Whitfords JFC. After several years a group of members broke away and formed the Whitfords JFC, necessitating a change of name to Sorrento Junior Football Club. In its formative years Sorrento fielded a modest amount of teams while the Whitfords club developed at a faster rate. It was quite some time before the Sorrento player numbers picked up, and the catalyst for this was probably renaming of the Club to ‘Sorrento-Duncraig’ due to the statistics which indicated that close to 50% of players in the Club were from the suburb of Duncraig.

Sorrento Duncraig Junior Football Club set a record in 2014 with over 1000 players participating in 31 Auskick teams, 16 Modified teams and 8 Youth teams, making them the largest junior football club in WA and one of the few clubs that had nominated teams in every age group from Year 4 through to Year 12.

The club have produced a large crop of talented WAFL players currently on the Subiaco list including Michael Wood, Rhys Waters, Simon Moore, James Garcia, Greg Clark, Reece Blechynden, Craig Hoskins, Thomas Hooper, Brad Waters and Adam Creeper. There are also a host of up and coming Colts stars with Subiaco who have come from the Sorrento Duncraig Junior Football Club.

As the Junior Club of the Week, Sorrento Duncraig will be participating in half time activities such as the Movie Masters Little League game and Auskick Grids, so keep an eye out for their future football stars as they grace the fields of Medibank.

Sorrento Duncraig JFC volunteers will also be conducting the weekly gate raffle, so please help support their club by purchasing a couple of tickets on your way in to the game for your chance to win back $50 cash!!!
