Lions Buzz: Round 15
Monday, 06 July 2015
Subi returned to Medibank Stadium on the weekend to face third placed Peel with 2200+ attendees soaking up a big Lions win.
Celebrating the 31st year with principle partner QBE the Lions donned the cyan blue kit against the Thunder and it worked wonders with Subi kicking to a massive 55-point triumph.
Sam Menegola was electric against his former side gathering 29 disposals, four tackles, four inside 50’s and a goal.
Peel were also unfortunate to face the wrath of another ex team-mate with young forward Michael Wood playing his best game of the year. Wood has taken a while to re-acclimatise into Subi but showed dominant signs with three goals against the Thunder.
Subi’s defence are also in the mix to make history after reducing Peel to their lowest ever score 6.8 (44) at Leederville Oval. The Lions back six of Hayden Kennedy, Jordan Lockyer, Declan Jackson, Aaron Heal, Charlie Le Fanu and Clancy Wheeler were impeccable against some of the best forwards in the league.
Kennedy held pacey forward Gerald Ugle to a single goal in the last quarter, and Heal held ex-Essendon spear-head Leroy Jetta goal-less.
The Lions are conceding an average of 55.46 points a game and could possibly be on track to challenge the 2005 Glory Year record of 855 points conceded in a year.
With QBE Day roaring, respect for Phil Walsh and a top five showdown. Subi’s social media was buzzing on Saturday.
