Subi 16's a shining light
- Monday, 08 April 2013
Subiaco’s 16s won a thrilling encounter at “Shark Park” on Saturday night to beat East Fremantle by five points.
The young Lions got off to a flyer leading the Sharks by five goals at quarter time, with spearheads Jye Harris and Nelson Summers capping off the good work from a dominant midfieldled led by Ethan Burnett, Jake Davis, Brayden Quinn, Abraham Kennedy and Thomas Lowndes.
Liam Tedesco and Corey Stons were also lively up forward, providing a sure avenue to attack and down back the Lions were getting great rebound from Dylan Campbell, Ian Penny, Bradley Lewis and Michael Braut.
The second quarter was an even affair with the Lions responding well to several Sharks surges. The highlight of the second quarter was a running goal from Jye Harris that saw the Lions take a four goal lead into half time.
Inaccurate kicking in the third quarter, (1 goal 7 points), was something that Subi could have regretted while the Sharks put on another three goals. The Lions had several chances to put the game beyond doubt with a match winning lead.
The Sharks started the last quarter impressively and eventually hit the lead, in what was proving to be a nail biter.
With only a minute remaining Abraham Kennedy had shot from directly in front and the Subi boys started to celebrate their four point lead, only to see the central umpires over-turn the goal umpires decision - instead Subi trailed by 1 point.
Then with only seconds remaining the Lions dug deep and pumped the ball forward with Jye Harris soccering a goal through a scurry of bodies to give the Lions a well-earned five point victory.
