A five-goal to none final term has seen Claremont overrun Subiaco at Medibank Stadium to win by 13-points.

Subiaco led by as much as 40 points midway through the third term but an Ian Richardson inspired comeback saw Claremont kick the last six goals of the game.

The Tigers hit the lead at the 24 minute mark of the fourth term before kicking another late goal to complete the 16.13 (109) to 15.6 (96) scoreline.

Earlier, it was the Tigers who made the better of a tight start to lead by two goals at quarter time.

However, as Claremont’s inaccuracy proved costly in the second quarter Subiaco made the most of their dominant period to kick eight straight goals in the second quarter.

Subiaco’s second quarter momentum carried into the third term as they booted the first two goals before the Claremont arrival.

Claremont’s weight of scoring shots 29-21 reflected on the scoreboard as they took toll of their opportunities.

Rob Forrest’s shutdown job on Sandover medallist Luke Blackwell was important in Subiaco’s first half run, Forrest with 26 of his own touches.

Lions captain Aidan Parker had the most touches of any Subiaco player with 27 while splitting his time between the ruck and defence.

George Hampson Subiaco’s most influential player with 22 possessions and two goals.

Blake Broadhurst kicked four first goals but failed to hit the scoreboard in the second half.

Kane Bloxsidge was reported for an incident in the first term.

QUARTER BY QUARTER:

First quarter:
In an arm-wrestle of a first quarter the teams went goal for goal. Claremont got on the board first before Blake Broadhurst kicked two goals either side of another Tiger goal. Claremont led by 13 points at quarter time but it could have been more as inaccuracy in front of goal cost them.

Second quarter:
Claremont appeared to have control of the contest but remained wasteful in front of goal. Subiaco then went on a run as they piled on eight straight goals for the quarter to Claremont’s 2.3.

Third quarter:
Subiaco started the third quarter as they finished the second full of run and kicked the first couple of goals to lead by

Fourth quarter:
Claremont’s third quarter momentum carried over into the fourth. A five-goal to none final term allowed the Tigers to overrun Subiaco. The Lions only scored two behinds for the final term.

Back to his best:
Blake Broadhurst was back to his sharp shooting best with four first half goals.

George, King of the Jungle:
In the battle of the big cats for king of the jungle George Hampson was close to best on ground with 22 touches and two goals. Hampson’s possessions had significant impact on the game.

Positive:
Subiaco again proved they can more than compete with the flag-fancies Claremont. The Lions were close to having the game wrapped up in the third term before they let it slip.
