Subiaco Football Club is proud to announce Kara Antonio as the League Forwards Coach for 2023. After recently announcing her retirement from AFLW, Antonio will join Beau Wardman, Nigel Hamilton, and Chayce Creedy to create a powerhouse coaching box.

Speaking to subiacofc.com.au, Antonio said, “It has been a rollercoaster over the last fortnight, but I couldn’t be happier to be heading to Subiaco”. The former captain of the Fremantle Football Club was able to walk away from the sport on a high after winning the final game of the season just 11 days ago.

Assisting Subiaco in 2022 alongside Nigel Hamilton and the midfield group, Antonio said “I loved working with Nigel on stoppages this year and it’s helped me create a plan for post-footy. When I sat down with Beau to discuss coaching, I was blown away with the support Subiaco could provide”.

Looking towards 2023, Antonio is excited to work alongside Wardman and his team of coaches to overcome the disappointment of 2022. “I see success for the forwards coming through forward pressure and locking down the 1%ers, but working as a team through line connection and communication. I’m looking forward to bringing some of the drills we did at Fremantle and helping the boys grow” Antonio said.

SFC General Manager Football Operations, Kristian Dicton said “We are thrilled to have Kara as a part of our team in 2023. Her experience and expertise will be a great asset to not only our coaching box but the club as a whole”.

With a proud history of success and culture, Antonio is ready for the challenge Subiaco provides “Players, staff and fans want to see success and I can’t wait to contribute”.
