WAFL: Round 18 Match Preview vs South Fremantle

Friday, August 19, 2022 - 8:41 AM by Matt Paddick

Subiaco will head to the heart of Fremantle as they look to continue their winning ways against South Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday August 20.

A rematch of the 2021 Grand Final, the game will be high intensity from the first bounce as the Lions look to test the Bulldogs on their home deck.

FORM

Subiaco have hit a recent patch of winning form, taking victories in their past two matches.

The Lions shook things up and are playing a different style of football, with some players in new positions.

Their performance last week was enough to knock East Perth out of finals contention, and will look to be competitive against South Fremantle.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs after winning three games in a row had a draw against West Perth in round 15, before a loss last week to Peel Thunder.

LAST TIME THEY MET

Just eight points separated the two sides in round one of this year, with South Fremantle taking the four points.

It was close all game, but the Lions had the lead heading into the last quarter.

However, the Bulldogs wouldn’t back down, kicking two majors in the last to seal their first win of the season.

ONE TO WATCH

In recent times, Angus Dewar has reminded the competition just how much of a match winner he can be.

Playing up forward, Dewar looked impressive as Subiaco’s third tall, and used his speed and football IQ to help his side to back-to-back victories.

He’s kicked four goals in two weeks, and looks a natural in the forward line.

His role could prove crucial as the Lions look to make it three wins in a row.
