Subiaco make the move to 'One Club' Model

Thursday, August 18, 2022 - 3:49 PM

The long awaited One Club model will finally be a reality in 2023 as the Subiaco WAFLW set to represent the maroon and gold.

The strategic alignment will see several positive changes in the 2023 season with Men’s, Women’s and Talent working together towards the WAFL and WAFLW benchmark.

With further investment into community and inclusion initiatives, 2023 looks to be the year of the Lion.

Michael Farmer will remain at the helm with a recent contract extension securing his position at the club for next season and beyond. Farmer will provide a guiding light throughout the transition and as head of the program will continue to drive high standards.

Speaking to subiacofc.com.au, Farmer said “the entire team is thrilled about the transition and already looking forward to round 1”

“Women’s footy has taken so many steps forward over the past years and we’re excited about further progress next year.

“An increase in the quality of resources from equipment through to coverage, our team is looking forward to being an integral part of the Subiaco family and continuing the lineage of success.”

The integration of the women’s program coincides with the expected launch of our second home for 2023. The final agreement with the City of Stirling is expected within weeks for both the Women’s and Talent programs to be based at the Des Penman facility.

Progress has already begun for Women’s Football at Subiaco with our inaugural development squad having started training for their upcoming carnival. Jasmine Cookson, formerly involved in the Rogers Cup program was appointed as the head coach, and her football knowledge, passion and enthusiasm will drive girls through the talent pathway.

In addition, SFC will appoint a Female Football Operations Manager over the coming weeks who will be based at the Leederville Oval offices. The appointment will provide a further connection between the programs working within the football department and provide a connection for the entire organisation.

One of the driving forces of the movement has been Subiaco Football Club, CEO, Peter Capes. Speaking to subiacofc.com.au said, “We are excited to finally have the women’s program under the influence of Subiaco Football Club.”

“The inclusion of Subiaco Women’s will see an increase in opportunity for our players and our members. A step forward for our club and our great game.

“There is no doubt that the program will benefit from better support the fully integrated One Club model will provide. Already we have a number of new people along with a shared training base to be announced shortly.”

With the growth of the club, we are calling for all Subiaco fans to get involved. There are many opportunities to assist with the Women’s program, if this is of some interest to you or someone you know, please contact s.berryman@subiacofc.com.au

SFC is extremely excited about the next 18 months and we look forward to your ongoing support.

Together we are united.
