WAFL: Round Eight Match Preview vs Perth

Friday, June 10, 2022 - 9:14 AM by Matt Paddick

Subiaco will head to Mineral Resources Park with a point to prove when they take on Perth on Saturday June 11.

The Lions will be looking to turn their season around, with the sides level on points heading into the match.

As the WAFL nears the halfway point, the match is important for both sides, which means exciting viewing for fans.

FORM

Subiaco have had a mixed month of football, with two nail biting victories, followed by two losses under different circumstances.

The wins over East Perth and Swan Districts were euphoric, and it looked like the Lions were back in business.

However, losses to East Fremantle and Peel Thunder have put an emphasis on this week, and the importance of getting a win.

Meanwhile, Perth have had their own struggles so far in 2022.

After a one-point win over Peel in round four, the Demons have lost three in a row, and will be desperate not to make it a fourth when they take on Subiaco.

LAST TIME THEY MET

The Lions proved too strong for Perth in round 14, taking a comprehensive 27-point win at home.

Subiaco started hot on the day, and were able to stop any momentum the Demons had.

Strong defensive efforts from Aaron Heal, Jordan Lockyer, and Drew Rohde were paramount to the Lions’ 10.11 (71) to 6.8 (44) win.

ONE TO WATCH

While the Lions haven’t been as consistent as they would have liked this year, Drew Rohde continues to show his influence.

In the absence of Jordan Lockyer, and with emerging defenders around him, the 28-year-old has been able to find the football and has been a strong user in the defensive 50.

His intercepting ability has stood out, and he has been one of Subiaco’s most consistent players this season.
