The WAFL’s State Team will have a heavy influence from Subiaco when the side takes on the SANFL.

Six Lions will feature in the clash on Sunday, where the two sides are set to go head-to-head at 12pm at Optus Stadium.

Ruckman Lachlan Delahunty has earned a sixth state call up since moving to Subiaco ahead of the 2014 season.

Defender Angus Dewar and forward Ben Sokol have both earned their second state guernseys, while midfielders Chad Harris and Stefan Giro have earned the opportunity to represent WA for the first time.

Meanwhile, Subiaco skipper Leigh Kitchin in his seventh state game will captain the side, as he did in 2021.

He told WA Football it was a privilege to be leading the side once again.

“It’s a huge honour and is one I take a lot of pride in and I’m just really excited to have this opportunity,” Kitchin said.

“The opportunity to lead a committed group of players on Sunday is one I’m excited about.”

The 31-year old said it’s a competitive squad with a lot of experience, as the side looks to defeat the SANFL for the first time since 2018.

In the coaches box, featuring for the Lions is League head coach Beau Wardman, who is taking charge of the midfield for the clash.

Subiaco has been given the opportunity to take charge of the squad’s preparation for the clash, with head trainer Maddie Oudman and the Lions’ medical staff to oversee the state team on game day.
