Match Preview v Peel Thunder

Thursday, September 2, 2021 - 1:13 PM by Alice Miller

Just one final clash with Peel this weekend is all that remains of the 2021 home and away season and it’s time to go out on a high before the focus shifts to the club’s 57th finals campaign.

Subi will travel down to David Grays Arena for bouncedown at 2:10pm on a mostly sunny afternoon.

Keep an eye on Subiaco’s social media channels and app for updates across the day if you cannot make it to the game.

FORM

Subiaco managed to steal a close one last week against their neighbours East Perth. They won 12.13 (85) to 11.5 (71) despite the royals winning the second half with most of the goal kicking. East Perth gave themselves a sniff converting plenty after half time with 11 scoring shots (6.5) as Subi added just 3.3 in the final two terms. Despite a royal scare, Subi were able to get it done in the end and further their minor premiership hopes.

Delahunty had a day, 28 touches, 21 hitouts, 7 marks and 5 tackles while Harris (25) and Kennedy (23) both also contributed heavily to the eventual win.

Ben Sokol looks to have locked away Subi’s leading goal kicker this year sitting on 39.22 for the season, two of which came from last week’s game.

OPPONENTS FORM

Even though finals aren’t possible for them with one game to go, Peel have looked to finish off with their head held high after two consecutive wins last two weeks. First being a close one against rivals West Coast where they claimed the win by a margin of just two followed by a convincing 43-point win last Saturday against the Demons. The Thunder are on 24 points and East Freo above them on 32 means finals are out of the question but their run of form to round off the season seems that isn’t bothering them.

GOAL KICKERS

Last time it was Lions v Thunder in round eight, Harry Marsh kicked the most goals for Subi with three straight followed by Wil Hickmott with two. There were six individual goal kickers on the day; Liam Hickmott, Sokol, Braut, Harris, Martin and Brandon Matera.

LAST TWO TIMES

Subi won 11.17 (83) to 5.9 (53) back in round eight of this season when Subi held Peel scoreless in the first quarter. Last year’s occasion was slightly closer being a 37-point winning margin in Subi’s favour down at Rushton Park as was the scoring shots 25-13.

OTHER GRADES

Ressies will round off their season against the Thunder at 11:40am on Saturday while Subi’s Colts will kickstart the Saturday nice and early at 9:10am to finish off their year.
