Round 18 is out of the way and Subi got four points out of twelve across the three grades over the weekend, League boys being the beneficiary of the only Subi win.

LEAGUE

Subi snatched their twelfth win over the weekend against one of their bigger challengers in Claremont, coming from the clouds in the last quarter to win 14.9 (93) to 13.10 (88) off the boot of Ben Sokol.

Subi have now done this on two occasions this year, getting themselves back into a winning position after being completely off the mark for majority of the match.

Claremont’s start was like a shock to Subi’s system leaving them stunned at the 12 scoring shots to Subi’s three at the end of the first 25 minutes and much work to do already.

The Lions clawed themselves back into the game before it was gone out of sight and made it a 15-point ball game at the main break.

Sokol was doing all he could already kicked three straight for the afternoon while Greg Clark was on fire having nine tackles with his 12 touches by half time.

Claremont were back on top and looked in a comfortable position to come away with the win being 17-points up at the final break, but Subi refused to go home empty handed.

Midway through the final term Claremont’s lead was trimmed to just points after Nick Martin set one through the middle. Centre clearances became telling of the final result as it was Subi that benefited when the game reset in the middle sending it quickly into their forward half in the trusty hands of Ben Sokol. The fit and firing forward made it a one-point ball game kicking his sixth and ended up being the difference for the five-point victors.

It wasn’t an enjoyable build up for a Subi supporter but the result proved otherwise and certain elation in a nail biting win in the end.

Wasn’t just the bag and a half of goals he stocked up on, but Sokol also had 13 disposals and eight marks but his goal kicking was what now places him nicely in third in the Bernie Naylor medal race.

Nick Martin joined in on the party with three straight goals for the day and Braut chipped in also with two. Individuals were awarded to Brandon Matera, Walters and Hickmott.

Bar his round one performance, Saturday’s game was the classiest display from the leading tackler in the comp Greg Clark who finished with 30 touches and 12 tackles to hopefully add to his Sandover votes.

The win sees the minor premiership almost certain to be Subi’s. They’ll play East Freo this week at home on Saturday with bounce down at 2:10pm.

RESERVES

It was a rough day for Subiaco’s other grades, including the ressies who feel short 6.14 (50) to Claremont 11.12 (78).

Subi started strong but couldn’t hold that momentum after half time. There was just one kick in it at the main break and the game was open.

Quickly a Claremont three goals to one third quarter proved the outlook of the game despite just one extra scoring shot to the Tigers being the difference.

Subi got their looks at goal in the final term and had the opportunity to make it a closer game, but all four shots went wayward. Meanwhile Claremont kept on their way to a 28 point win.

Ben Golding produced a solid showing, 18 disposals, five marks, three tackles and scored 1.3 for the game while Nick Menegola brought the heat through his pressure acts with 11 tackles alongside his 13 touches. Mullane, Ash and Clinch all also notched up 16 touches on the ball each with a combined 11 tackles between them.

Breman, Jordan Faraone, Patterson, Stergiou and Holt all chipped in on the goal scoring sharing the load all with single figures each.

COLTS

It was a rather forgetful performance from the Colts as they’d certainly want to move on as quick as they can from it.

For the entirety of the game was Subi on the back foot and were trying to match Claremont intensity and reciprocate the flurry of goals.

Subi finally got some through in the third quarter when they kicked two for the term and brought some energy back into the team.

Followed that up by kicking another two through the middle in the final term finishing with four goals and six scoring shots.

Claremont were just on a complete other level 29 scoring shots, 63 inside-50s and won the hitouts 39-23.

The consistent go-getters in Jed Kemp, Jacob Evitt and Corey Bellouard were on show despite the result having 27, 21 and 21 touches respectively. Josh Moses topped the tackle count for Subi on the day with seven and had 16 disposals to go with it.

Evitt and Kemp didn’t settle for just over 20 disposals each but half the team’s goals went to Evitt, and the other two were split between Kemp and Franceschini.

Subi have another and probably their last crack at a spot in the Finals this week against East Freo.
