Subiaco have now gotten their revenge in a 20-point victory over the weekend in what was a fourth quarter win against the Eagles.

Subi were on the receiving end of the upset of the season a month ago when a reinvigorated Eagles team produced their best performance and knocked off the top dog when all odds were against them. Subi have now shaken off the demons of the past and were able to claim the four points in what ended up being a comfortable win despite the game being tight for three of the four quarters. Lions now sit a good 20% clear above the rest of the competition on top of the ladder.

The game started near identical to the round 11 clash when the Eagles went into quarter time with a 12-point lead despite a great start from the home team. What didn’t help Subi’s case was being a man down for the remainder of the match when Jacob Atkinson went off injured in the first term.

The match’s trajectory turned in the second when Subi started to find their groove and had a few more looks at goal creating a 24-point turnaround and snatching that 12-point lead. Second-gamer Josh Robbins had booted his first goal in the second term pleasing many in the crowd and a good reception from his teammates.

West Coast showed an impressive third quarter performance to get the game completely back on their terms and even gave themselves the lead by more than a kick setting up for a cracker of a finish to unfold in the final quarter. Subi kicked one goal to the Eagles’ five for the quarter, struggling to stand up against an attacking West Coast side that just kept on coming.

Ultimately Subi put any doubts or questions to sleep when they showed up winning the big moments in the fourth quarter. Jumping straight out the gates when the final term commenced worked big time in Subi’s favour as they were able to hold onto that momentum following goals from Walters and Sokol. It was also down to the ‘wall’ that Subi’s men down back were able to produce and bounce the ball straight back out of defence every time the Eagles would get it in there.

A nice 32 disposal, six tackle and five inside-50 day for Lions Skipper Kitchin and has now boosted himself up to equal second in the comp for tackles, first place belonging to teammate Greg Clark for majority of the season. Brandon Matera kicked three off his boot alongside his 20 touches and nine marks while mr consistent Harry Marsh kicked two to add to his 2021 goal tally and got his hands on the ball 18 times for five marks and tackles. Aaron Heal was one of the many Subi defenders that held strong clunking eight of the accumulative 44 marks from Subi’s back line.

Next week will be one of Subi’s biggest tests when they face up to South Freo in a 2019 Grand Final rematch. Subi’s fifth home game in a row will kick at 2:10pm for Sunday Afternoon footy.
