Team Announcement v South Fremantle

Friday, April 30, 2021 - 8:51 AM by Alice Miller

It’s round five of the 2021 Optus WAFL Premiership Season and the Lions are up against South Fremantle this Saturday at Fremantle Oval playing at 2:10pm.

ONES TO WATCH

Coming off a match winning performance last round, Greg Clark is in ripping form and doesn’t look to slow down anytime soon. In round order of the season so far, Clark has had 25, 21, 37 touches with a total of ten inside-50s and certainly doesn’t let them get away with pressure acts up to 26 tackles for the three games. So far this year he is averaging 27.7 disposals and leading not only the tackle count for the competition, five clear from Lions’ Skipper Leigh Kitchin with 21, but also averaging 8 tackles for each game. Being one of an opponents’ worst nightmare and now a Subiaco fan’s favourite after the match sealer in the final seconds of the West Perth game is the form Clark will hope to bring to each and every contest in Saturday’s match up with South Fremantle.

Looking to make his return after two rounds off from footy, gun halfback flanker, Kyle Stainsby will be one to keep an eye on this week as he shows how much his presence around the footy was missed. Stainsby played round one and was one of Subiaco’s best for the game, while having 21 touches, he held up down back and was vital in helping the forward line go at it in the final quarter to storm home with the win. Stainsby does and will continue to play a big role for the Lions, most notably last year being recognised for his consistent performances in the team, bringing his all every week, claiming Subiaco’s Best & Fairest in an up and down season. Look out for another season to remember for Kyle, for hopefully no more obstacles he faces.

It’s already been another cracking start to the 2019 Bernie Naylor Medalist Ben Sokol’s season making his appearances up forward felt on the scoreboard with eight majors for just three games of footy so far. He’s also averaging 13 disposals and four scoring shots per game. It’s early on in the season, but given the display so far, Sokol’s season looks to be shaping up to be getting back to his 2019 best, discarding the 2020 season in its shortened format and a full 2021 season ahead, watch out for him up there in front of the big sticks.
