WAFLW Preview v Peel Thunder

Tuesday, September 1, 2020 - 11:25 AM by Creed Griffiths

This Sunday, the Lions will host Peel Thunder in the second semi-final of the 2020 Finals series, with the winner moving straight through to the 2020 WAFLW Grand Final and one win away from Premiership glory. Bounce down is at Leederville Oval, this Sunday.

FORM
After securing back-to-back minor Premierships, the Lions will be looking to go one further this season and claim the ultimate success. Their journey starts this weekend against an in-form Peel Thunder who have turned their fortunes around this season after finishing last in 2019. Subiaco has had a very strong 2020 season, sitting atop the table with two games and 58.3% in hand over second-placed Peel Thunder. They have been the team to beat all season and are deserving of the “favourites” tag that will be placed on them as they head into this week’s Final.

OPPONENTS FORM
Peel Thunder are sitting second on the ladder at the head of a logjam in the ladder that sees themselves and the fourth-placed Swan Districts separated only by percentage. Having recorded four wins and three losses this season, they are as well-positioned a team as any to take on this rampaging Lions outfit.

LAST TIME THEY MET
The two sides last met in Round 5 of the 2020 Season, with Peel Thunder pushing Subiaco in a tight contest all day. The Lions ran out eventual nine-point winners however, 6.5.41 to 5.2.32. Aimee Schmidt once again starred for the Lions, leading all-comers on the day with two majors. Lara Filocamo, Claudia Langley, Maggie MacLachlan and Lindal Rohde provided the spearhead ample support with a goal apiece. The Lions will be hoping to be able to flex their muscles this weekend and show the league that they already have one hand on this seasons Premiership cup.
