2019 OPTUS WAFL PREMIERSHIP SEASON
ROUND 17
SUBIACO 15.10 (100) defeated PERTH 6.6 (42)

Subiaco continued their recent dominance over Perth and once again proved too strong under lights, running out 15.10.100 to 6.6.42 winners and record a 58-point victory away at Mineral Resources Park.

In chilly, yet clear conditions the Lions got off to a fast start to amass 10 shots on goal to three and break apart the game with a 22-point lead. The goals continued to come throughout the match with the lead steadily growing quarter on quarter as the Lions were ruthless with ball in hand as their quick and efficient ball movement cut the Perth defence to ribbons. The Lions midfield brigade amassed plenty of the ball with Lachlan Delahunty (23 disposals, 6 inside 50’s), Kyal Horsley (21 disposals, 7 indie 50’s) and Greg Clark (20 disposals, 10 tackles) being the chief contributors from the Lions engine room.

Ben Sokol was the main beneficiary of the Lions excellent ball use, booting seven majors along with a massive 21 disposals from his 13 marks. Perth’s defence just couldn’t keep up with the Lions leading patterns as Ryan Vermeersch kicked three goals from three marks and Max Walters booted two goals from four marks to go with his 21 disposals for the day.

ROUND 2
SUBIACO 14.11 (95) defeated SOUTH FREMANTLE 2.2 (14)

The Lions dominated South Fremantle from start to finish in conditions perfect for footy at sunny Leederville Oval. The match saw the Bulldogs woes in front of goal continue as they struggled to score throughout the day to register just the two goals for the match.

It took South Fremantle the best part of the first half to register their first goal – at which point the Lions had already kicked 7 of their own.

The Lions continued to heap pressure on the Bulldogs defence amassing 14 majors for the game, with Aimee Schmidt the chief destroyer booting five goals. Schmidt was ably supported up forward by Lara Filocamo and Kia Buckley who both kicked two themselves as the Lions ran out 81-point victors, 14.11.95 to 2.2.14.
