2019 OPTUS WAFL PREMIERSHIP SEASON

ROUND 8

SUBIACO 15.9 (99) defeated PEEL THUNDER 8.10(58)

Subiaco made it back to back wins with a convincing 41-point victory over strengthened Peel Thunder side at David Greys Arena in Mandurah on Sunday. With 15 Fremantle listed players on the park for Peel, Subiaco kicked 3 goals to 1 in the first quarter while Harley Bennell racked up 12 first quarter possessions to keep his side in the match. Craig Hoskins was shifted onto the ball magnet in a bid to curb his influence on the game and did so to great effect keeping Bennell to just 2 possessions. Horsley gathered possessions at his normal pace, while Greg Clark found plenty of the ball with both having 17 touches for the 1st half. Subiaco asserted its dominance in the match with a 6 goal to 1 behind second quarter to go into half time with a 47-point lead.

Peel came into the 3rd quarter with more fluency in their game and moved the ball well to kick 3 out of the first 4 goals before the Lions stemmed the momentum before Delahunty (2 goals), Horsley and Waters hit the scoreboard to even the quarter.

Harry Marsh continued to impress for the club by keeping forward Cam McCarthy quiet, Greg Clark and Kyal Horsley worked tirelessly through the midfield to finish up with 29 and 28 possessions respectively. Ben Sokol kicked 3 goals while Lachlan Delahunty, Simon Moore, Ryan Borchet and Ben Newton finished with 2 goals.
