As we draw closer to the 2019 Optus WAFL Grand Final, we take a closer look into Subiaco’s 2019 WAFL Premiership season.

Throughout the 2019 season, Subiaco had a total of 38 players play league football, with Kitchin, Delahunty, Clark, Sokol, Waters, and Horsley playing all home and away games during the year. South Fremantle for comparison had one less player, with 37 players playing league football during 2019.

Seven Subiaco players debuted for the league side during the 2019 Optus WAFL Premiership Season, with Cleggett, Marsh, Atkinson, Stainsby, Mayo, Reid, and Beverley all playing a minimum of two games in the year.

Subiaco had eight players compete for Western Australia as a State Team representative. These players included Sokol, Delahunty, Deluca, Horsley, Kitchin, Litherland, Lockyer, and Kennedy.

Mid-way through the season, two Subiaco players were drafted onto an AFL list in the inaugural AFL Mid-Season draft. Josh Deluca was drafted pick 1 to Carlton and played six games for the Blues. Jack Mayo was the second Subi player to be drafted and went to St Kilda, however, has not debuted for the Saints yet.

Throughout 2019, there have been five 100+ WAFL game milestones with Horsley achieving 200 games, Wheeler 150 games and Heal, Kitchin and Delahunty all hitting the 100 game milestone. Should Waters be selected to compete at this weekend’s Grand Final, he will play his 100th game on Sunday.

At the recent 2nd Semi-Final against South Fremantle at Leederville Oval, Subiaco had six players who appeared in their first league finals series. These players included Marsh, Beverley, Braut, Edwards-Baldwin, Atkinson and Stainsby.

To cap off an outstanding season, Subiaco claimed the Bernie Naylor Medal (awarded to Ben Sokol), JJ Leonard Medal (awarded to Beau Wardman), The Rodriguez Shield and Lachlan Delahunty claimed the 2019 Sandover Medall one point ahead of Kyal Horsley for his outstanding 2019 season.

We look forward to seeing you all there at Optus Stadium this Sunday as we look to pain the stadium Maroon and Gold.
