200 of the best - Kyal Horsley

This weekend will see Subiaco’s Kyal Horsley celebrate his 200th game against East Perth.  Kyal is the 15thSubiaco league player to hit the 200thWAFL game milestone in the Club’s history. Horsley was an outstanding sportsman in his youth in cricket, hockey and football. Horsley made his senior debut for the Kalgoorlie City Football Club when he was 16.  

Horsley first debuted for Subiaco in round 16 of the 2007 season against East Fremantle. In his first game for the Club he was able to hit the scoreboard with two goals and finished with 21 disposals.

In 2008, Kyal played 21 league games including the WAFL Grand Final, represented Western Australia against Queensland, and was awarded the Football Budget: Best First Year Player.

The 31-year old who came across from Kalgoorlie City Football Club has had an outstanding career with Subiaco FC, winning three Outridge Medal’s for Subiaco’s fairest & best in 2011,2014,2018. Horsley also finished 2ndin the Sandover Medal for WAFL Fairest and Best in 2011 and 2018 and 3rdin 2017.

Kyal Horsley was drafted to the Gold Coast Suns #2 (Rookie Draft) in 2012 and was elevated from the Gold Coast Rookie List the same year. Kyal was awarded "Most Professional" and "Iron Man" Award at the Suns best and fairest in his first year at the club where he played 13 games. 

In Kyal’s second season he only managed to play one AFL game due to rupturing his ACL which saw him return to Perth at the end of the 2013 season. Kyal then returned to Subiaco in 2014 and named captain, playing 19 league games including the WAFL Grand Final. 

Horsley has had an influential impact on the Club across the past 12 years, bringing a new standard of professionalism and team culture; setting the benchmark for future years.  In these years he was able to show both his strong leadership styles and passion for football which lead him being a part of winning four WAFL grand finals.
