Subiaco’s year long look back down memory lane moves to Round 21.

It used to be the end of the season, Round 21, but for most of this millennium that has not been the case. Now in 2018, the home and away season officially ends with this, Round 21.

The last round of the year has often proven to be a difference maker for finals with a number of close wins, big wins and epic memories.

Take a look at some of the best of Round 21.

1968

-- Subiaco 128 d 54 East Fremantle --

On this day in 1968 Subiaco saw 2 record performances which have been unmatched till this day. These 2 performances came from Austin Robertson Jr. who kicked 15 goals 11 behinds which is the most goals anyone has kicked in a game for Subiaco in the club’s history, and Hadyn Bunton who recorded 54 disposals which is most disposals ever recorded in a WAFL game. The game itself didn’t bare much meaning to the season as a whole and Subiaco comfortably came away victorious with no real challenge throughout the match.

2012

-- Subiaco 100 d 98 West Perth --

Subiaco had to travel to West Perth for this match between 2 mid table sides. The match was dominated by West Perth early as they took a 28 point lead into the second half. Another massive Subiaco third quarter comeback in which they scored 51 points saw them take the lead for the first time as they entered into the last quarter with a 14 point advantage. A very tough last quarter where both sides didn’t want to give up anything made for exciting finish. Subiaco would be good enough on the night to hold on for the win. Callum Sinclair played a great game recording 28 disposals and 37 hit outs.

1994

-- Subiaco 203 d 82 South Fremantle --

The 1994 season came down to the very last week for Subiaco in a must win game against South Fremantle. With their future out of their hands, needing the Swan Districts to lose, all Subiaco could do was win this match. They would do so in emphatic fashion, a complete and utter domination of South Fremantle took place as Subiaco kept their play up for the entirety of the contest. Jason Heatley played an outstanding game recording 10 goals in the win.

1973

-- Subiaco 120 d 94 Claremont --

Sitting at top spot, Subiaco needed to win their last match in order to secure top spot and a second semi-final. After a close first quarter Subiaco turned on the style in the second quarter and took a 35 point lead into the third. Subiaco would maintain this lead throughout the game leading to their win. Mick Malone provided a great spark up forward kicking 4 goals on the night. This win would play a vital role in Subiaco winning the flag, as they went on to lose the second semi but made their second chance count, leading them to win their first premiership in 51 years.

1987

-- Subiaco 145 d 74 West Perth --

Another must win game for Subiaco took place on this day in 1987. Subiaco were looking to secure a second semi-final spot and a win would do that. After getting off to the perfect start, Subiaco would build from that and easily get the win which they required. Brian Taylor and Peter Featherby produced another great game recording 38 and 40 disposals respectively.
