Two Big Occasions for Subiaco as Community & Premierships to be Celebrated

Thursday, August 2, 2018 - 9:19 PM

Subiaco this Saturday will be celebrating two important occasions in the WAFL Round 18 match against Swan Districts with Community Day & Premiership Reunion Day set to be celebrated.

City of Vincent are the Major Event Partner of Saturday’s game, where for the second year in a row, the City will be supporting the Subiaco Football Club while further embracing the local sport loving community.

With the City of Vincent currently embarking on a Strategic Community Plan that includes sport and the Leederville Oval precinct, it is another opportune time for fans of Subiaco to show how integral the club and football is to the local community.

Meanwhile for the Subiaco Football Club, strengthening ties within the community and further supporting community programs and initiatives is seen as a crucial way of the club continuing to survive and thrive.

Subiaco Corporate Partnership Manager Cameron Palmer acknowledged that the club was keen to continue to promote itself as a pillar of the local community.

“The Subiaco Football Club recognises the key role it plays in helping support mental and physical health for thousands of children and adults within our district,” Palmer said.

“We are delighted to partner with the City of Vincent to really highlight the ongoing work Subiaco does to support the local community and the positive impact that our football club has to a diverse group of supporters, fans and members.”

Last year’s Community match, supported by the City of Vincent, was promoted as the Imagine Vincent Match and was a key part of the Imagine Vincent project.

Imagine Vincent asked the local community the vision that they had for the city, with the below video highlighting the key findings of the project and highlighting how far the project stretched.

Meanwhile, the other significant occasion to be celebrated by Subiaco on Saturday will be Premiership Reunion day, highlighted by the two league premiership wins in 1988 and 2008.

The 1988 and 2008 Premiership players will be the special guests of this Saturday’s President’s Function, with over 30 representatives from these two teams set to be in the room for the function, with more expected later in the day for the post-game presentations.

The club will also be recognising the 1998 Reserves Premiership side after they defeated West Perth in the 1998 decider.

The Subiaco Reserves side were in the midst of a famous three-peat winning premierships in 1997, 1998 and 1999.

The Subiaco Women’s team will also be represented with the Women’s team also celebrating a premiership reunion, after the then Coastal Titans took out both the League and Reserves premierships in 2008.

All past Subiaco premiership players are encouraged to attend Saturday’s game, along with all Subiaco fans, to rub shoulders with these past great players of the club.

Both league Grand Final wins will be replayed during the post-game presentations.
