Subiaco Register 103 Point Win Over East Fremantle

Subiaco made another emphatic statement in the 2018 WAFL season with a commanding performance and dominating 103 point win over East Fremantle.

Having played just three times in 51 days heading into the game, Subiaco showed no signs of sluggishness, holding East Fremantle goalless in the first half as they built a 59 point half time lead.

An equally dominant second half was marred only by inaccuracy as Subiaco recorded 17 points in the second half alone, finishing with a wayward final score of 19.26.

The dominance on the scoreboard was replicated across most major categories as Subiaco had 446 disposals to 316, 46 hit outs to 23, and an incredible 76 inside 50 entries compared to East Fremantle’s 23.

The start of the game was controlled by Lachlan Delahunty who had 16 first quarter possessions making the most of his time in the ruck and posing a threat around the ground. Though fading later in the game, Delahunty finished with 28 possessions and two goals to arguably be the best player on the ground.

Captain Kyal Horsley’s rich vein of form continued with 37 possessions, Josh Deluca had 31 possessions with two goals and Leigh Kitchin also topped 30 possessions, finishing with 31.

The win made it eight straight to start the season for the Lions, as they moved three games clear at the top of ladder taking a stranglehold on the competition to the halfway point of the year.

GAME CHANGERS

THAT INSIDE 50 DIFFERENTiAL

Subiaco recorded one of its greatest ever inside 50 differentials, at plus 53 in this category. The dominance in forward entries was replicated on the scoreboard with Subiaco having 45 scoring shots as opposed to East Fremantle’s 12. Subiaco’s strong conversion going inside 50 continued as they posted a conversion of 58%, but lagged with accuracy at 42%.

SOKS DOES IT ALL

Forward Ben Sokol once again showed his ability and versatility with a strong all round performance. Sokol led the Lions with six tackles on the day, also collecting seven marks and having 19 possessions. He finished his day with 2.3 and a couple of handy goal assists in a strong return to form for the important forward.

RETURNING DELUCA DOESN’T MISS A BEAT

With his three game suspension coming to an end, Deluca made the most of getting back amongst his Subiaco teammates, competing with Delahunty for the best player on the ground. Deluca had 31 possessions and kicked two goals, but it was that real presence around the contest and stoppages that added an extra element to the Subiaco midfield as the Lions commanded the clearances.

OUTSIDE SORT OF GAME

The two teams combined for over 750 possessions yet just over 100 tackles, giving an indication of the sort of game it turned into. It was all about being good at winning the ball in the contest and maintaining possession on the outside. East Fremantle had their share of the ball, but a strong defensive performance from Subiaco was equally as important in the commanding win.
