Tuesday, April 24, 2018 - 10:45 AM

The Subiaco Football Club are excited to announce the recruitment of current Collingwood AFLW player and former International Hockeyroo’s player Georgie Parker.

Parker has a wealth of experience as an elite athlete after playing over 100 games for the Hockeyroos and displays an impressive playing resume which includes a gold medal in the 2014 Commonwealth games in Glasgow and a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Parker was recruited to Collingwood as a rookie in the 2017 AFLW draft.

She attributes this as being one of her greatest sporting achievements and will continue playing after being retained by Collingwood for the 2019 season.

“I’m heading back to Perth after the completion of the AFLW season to play football and to be with my husband Jacob who is a medical student,” Parker said.

“It’s exciting to be a part of Subiaco and I have just been really impressed with the culture of the club.”

The decision for Georgie to come to Subiaco was strengthened by her friendship with Subiaco WAFL League player, Leigh Kitchin.

Subiaco Football club has the proven experience to provide the right environment for their players to develop and Parker will use her time throughout the WAWFL season to improve her skill base and enhance her knowledge and understanding of the game.

Everyone at the club is looking forward to seeing Georgie take the field in the maroon and gold and know she will play an integral role for us both on and off the field.

Subiaco Football Club Women’s President Sarah Michell was delighted to add a player of Georgie’s ability and character for the remainder of the 2018 season.

“We are excited to have Georgie want to come and play at the Subiaco Football Club and further develop her game through our program,” Michell said.

“She brings a wealth of experience as an elite athlete and our girls will benefit greatly from her leadership.”

The Subiaco Women’s team will take on South Fremantle this Sunday at 2.00pm at Fremantle Oval.

With the Subiaco Men’s teams on a bye this week, those looking to support the maroon and gold are encouraged to support the girls in Fremantle this weekend.
