Subiaco announces leaders for 2022

Subiaco Football Club has finalised its leadership group for season 2022, with six players selected to represent the club.

The nomination process for the team’s leaders was the same as last season, where a pool of players were voted on after those who wished to be considered nominated for the role.

Leigh Kitchin will captain the side for a fourth consecutive year, a role he said was an honour to take on for another season.

WAFLW: Lions fall short at Leederville Oval

It was a tough day out for Subiaco’s WAFLW side, as they took a 45-point loss to Claremont at Leederville Oval on Sunday February 27.

Claremont’s system was well structured and prevented the home side from playing their natural game for the majority of the match.

West Coast AFLW listed Beth Schilling was a standout for Subiaco, looking solid in defence all day, while Jayme Harken found plenty of the football with 22 disposals.

WAFLW: Round 2 Match Preview vs Claremont

Giro settling into life as a Lion

One of Subiaco’s new recruits Stefan Giro said he’s eager for round one to come around where he hopes to run out in the maroon and gold for the first time.

The 22-year-old comes to the club after four seasons at the Fremantle Dockers, where he played 14 AFL matches.

Subiaco Lions have suffered a heartbreaking one-point loss to Peel Thunder in their opening clash of the WAFLW season at Lane Group Stadium on Saturday, February 19.

The Lions looked to have the match under control, but a late burst from the Thunder saw them clinch a last-minute goal to break the hearts of Subiaco supporters in a thrilling contest.
