WAFL: Round 18 Match Preview vs West Coast

Friday, August 11, 2023 - 1:03 PM by Matt Paddick

Fresh off the bye, the Lions will be looking to book their spot in the top five when they take on the West Coast Eagles on Sunday August 13 at 12:30PM.

Subiaco have had a strong season, sitting third on the WAFL ladder with 10 wins.

With the top two sides going head-to-head, a move up the table could be on the cards with a Lions win.

FORM

The Lions have bounced back in recent times, winning back-to-back games prior to the bye.

The strong wins over Perth and East Perth were much needed, following a string of losses which threatened to derail Subiaco’s season.

With just one game against a top five team for the remaining three rounds, the Lions have timed their run well.

However, it will be important to keep the momentum up, to secure a return to finals.

Meanwhile, the Eagles have had a season to forget.

With just one draw to their name from 15 matches, they will be desperate for a win.

However, West Coast have looked stronger in recent weeks, so the fixture is not a guaranteed four points.

LAST TIME THEY MET

Subiaco kicked their biggest score of the season when they faced the Eagles back in round nine.

The Lions piled on the pain, kicking a whopping 25 goals to West Coast’s five.

Subiaco won by 129 points, a percentage booster which got them back to competing with the other teams in the top five.

ONE TO WATCH

A tip of the hat has to go to ruckman Zac Clarke.

Set to run out in game number 100, the 33-year-old is arguably in career-best form.

Averaging over 41 hit outs per game and more than 18 disposals, Clarke is continuing to have influences on games.

His experience is helping the side’s younger midfielders improve their craft, with first class service in the middle.
