Subiaco Football Club hosted its Auskick Gala Day on Saturday August 5th, which was a success according to those involved.

The day involved kids doing skills sessions, which were run by the Subiaco players, as well as games played.

In attendance were a number of former players, including Matt Priddis, Darren Rumble, and Adam Jones, who were there with their own children.

In total, over 60 teams and 500 Auskick players came out to the day, with many of the future stars walking away with a Subiaco football.

The Gala Day’s success was thanks to the players, officials, and the clubs in the district according to the WAFC’s Subiaco Metro Central Development Officer Corey Dullard.

“We couldn’t have asked for better weather in the middle of winter, and the Subiaco district community was out in full force,” he said.

“All seven clubs who participated in the day have done a tremendous job with their auskick programs.

“A special shout out to the Stirling Saints JFC, who put on a fantastic catering experience for the district with a coffee station, wood fire pizzas, and the year 6’s running a doughnut stand to raise money for their 2024 Melbourne trip.”

Events like this take many weeks of planning, according to Dullard.

He said it was pleasing to see it all come together.

“From fixturing, to ground set up and allocation, all the way to the food vendors,” Dullard said.

“There are so many people that came together to make this incredible event possible.”

Gala Days are important for the game, as it provides so much joy for kids coming through the system.

Dullard said days like these are the pinnacle of community football.

“In the eyes of the year ones and pre primary kids, this is their grand final for the year,” he said.

“It was special having the Subiaco players in attendance running skills sessions during their bye week.

“Handballing and goal kicking with their WAFL idols does wonders for these kids who will hopefully grow up and play for Subiaco.”

Chief executive Peter Capes says the Gala Days build the foundation of the club for the future.

“The Auskick Gala Day is a great opportunity for our Junior Clubs to get together and have a great morning of football.

Most of our male and female players come from our metro district so it’s very important we keep as many players continuing to enjoy their football and eventually into the Subiaco talent pathway.

It was great to see so many kids and families enjoying the event in a safe and friendly environment so congratulations to everyone involved.”
