WAFL: Round 19 Match Preview vs Perth

Friday, August 26, 2022 - 7:59 AM by Matt Paddick

Round 19’s clash against Perth will be important in more ways than one, with a couple of stalwarts celebrating milestones.

In Subiaco’s last game at Leederville Oval for the year, the club will celebrate the final game in the storied career of Lachlan Delahunty.

Meanwhile, skipper Leigh Kitchin will notch up game number 150 for the club, and the boys will be looking to win for them.

FORM

Subiaco had looked back to the team fans had come to remember, with back-to-back wins against West Coast and East Perth.

However, the Lions were outplayed last week by South Fremantle at their home ground, and will be looking to end the season on a high with their penultimate game of the season against Perth.

Meanwhile, the Demons have had their own struggles of late, but have winning form which must be recognised.

Perth defeated West Coast in round 18, so the Lions will need to be switched on to get the job done.

LAST TIME THEY MET

It was a close encounter when the two sides met in round eight, with Subiaco winning by 14 points at Mineral Resources Park.

Perth held the lead at half time, but a brilliant third quarter effort got the Lions ahead, and they held on to win.

Stef Giro was everywhere, amassing 34 disposals, as was Wil Hickmott, who had 25 touches.

Subiaco will be eyeing off a 12th consecutive win against the Demons when the two sides go head to head.

ONE TO WATCH

For the last time in his career, Lachlan Delahunty will line up in the number 17 for the maroon and gold.

The ruckman will go down as one of the most decorated players in Lions’ history, with five premierships, six state guernseys, and a Sandover Medal to his name.

It’s been a wonderful career, and he will be looking for one last win in the WAFL against the Demons.
