Futures: Subi talent on display in victory over East Perth

Tuesday, March 15, 2022 - 9:29 AM

Saturday afternoon at Leederville oval saw the season kick-off for the Subiaco Futures taking on the Royals in perfect football conditions. Some late changes to the East Perth team sheet looked to affect East with Subiaco hitting the scoreboard within the opening minute with some slick skills from the Kalgoorlie pocket rocket Malakai Champion hitting up Koopa Walsh from Esperance who put through his first of five for the day.

The Royals applied strong physical pressure throughout the match, but the Lions were too strong, with their hard work in the preseason block being put on show, pulling away further at the end of each quarter. A dominant best on ground display in the midfield from Tom MacGillivray drove most of the attack with support from Aven Drewett and Ollie Gibson. Up forward, Koopa Walsh was the main target linking up with speedster, Josh Trott for eight between them. Subiaco backs linked up well to nullify any attack from the Royals and rebounded well led by Xav Hickey.

Subiaco Futures coaches choose to focus on their up-and-coming talent, only selecting three colts out of six as over-agers. Dees, Cater and Dunlop must be commended for their effort, directing the future talent of Subiaco across each line.

The Subiaco Futures face West Perth Falcons under lights at Leederville on Friday night in what will be an exciting match to watch, make sure you get down to see the future stars of Subiaco.
