WAFLW Match Preview v Claremont

Thursday, June 3, 2021 - 9:48 AM by Alice Miller

Second last game of the season is here and Claremont will host Subi on Saturday afternoon at 3:10.  Subiaco have all but booked their spot in the finals this year pending East Freo next two results and wins to the Lions as well. Knowing full well winning this week would mean a certainty for Subi to feature in the finals campaign, expect them to come out firing.

Keep an eye on Subiaco’s social media channels and app for updates across the day if you cannot make it to the game

FORM
The Lions have been building for weeks now and at the right time too just when wins have become crucial. Their narrow one point loss to Swan Districts in round 12 put a stop to their three game winning streak but halted no motivation and drive to win the following week, last Saturday, when they beat the other big name in the comp in Peel 5.4 (34) to 2.7 (19). Subi’s late season purple patch after welcoming back key AFLW stars, have helped them to fourth on the ladder ready for another finals campaign.

OPPONENTS FORM
Claremont are just above the Lions in third on one more win for the season. They had lost their past five up until last week when they put the nail in the coffin for the struggling South Freo’s season. Despite this, their great start to the season gave them the leeway to fall away a bit if they feel into rough patch of form as the last few weeks have showed. Expect this to be a heated and tight contest with two teams in similar runs of form heading into the 2021 Finals series.

LAST TIME THEY MET
Subiaco have confidence coming into this clash as they claimed the four points last time they played each other in round 11 of this season, 2.7 (19) to 4.6 (30). Scoring shots were only split by one more to the Lions but Claremont didn’t manage to make it a closer game kicking 2.7.

GOAL KICKERS
Subiaco have kicked 12 goals of the last three games and Hayley Miller kicking four of them has had a role to play in piecing together some impressive games. Amy Hunt still leads the goal scoring for Subiaco for the season recording 12 goals.
