Colts 2nd Semi-Final v Claremont Match Preview

Wednesday, September 16, 2020 - 8:50 AM by Creed Griffiths

Week one of the Simply Energy Colts Finals Series will commence with a mouth-watering clash between Subiaco and Claremont at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. Both sides have been dominant forces in the competition this season, so expect a high-scoring, free-flowing quality affair between two exciting teams. Bouncedown is at 9:30am, this Sunday, September 20.

If you can’t make it to the game, keep an eye on Subiaco’s social media channels and app for updates across the day.

FORM
Subiaco have enjoyed a brilliant season so far, winning all but two of their matches in 2020; with one of those losses coming last weekend against West Perth. Subiaco will take some confidence out of that match however as they were beaten in many key statistical areas, yet only lost by nine points in a gritty affair at Provident Financial Oval.

OPPONENTS FORM
Along with Subiaco, Claremont have been one of the teams to beat this season, as they finished the 2020 Season as minor Premiers; one game clear of second-placed Subiaco. The Tigers only loss came in Round 7 against the fourth-placed East Fremantle Sharks as they travelled away that day and lost convincingly by 21 points.

LAST TIME THEY MET
These two sides last met in Round 1 this season at Leederville Oval with the Lions losing by 13 points, 7.10.52 to 9.11.65. There was very little separating the two sides on the day, despite the margin; as both sides seemingly matched one another in all of the key components of the match. Lachlan Vanirsen was brilliant, starting his season with a bang as he collected the ball at will to record 25 disposals while taking seven marks and laying six tackles. Jaxon McGowan (24 disposals, seven marks) and Matthew Johnson (24 disposals, six marks) also found plenty of the ball, providing plenty of run and carry and combining to drive the ball inside 50 12 times.

GOAL KICKERS
Goals were hard to come by last time these two sides met, with the Lions registering seven for the morning. There was an even spread of goals in this Round 1 clash, with singles from Jed Kemp, Matthew Johnson, Lachlan Vanirsen, Ezekiel Bolton, Galen Savigni, Patrick Mullane and Zac Caulfield.

IN ONE SENTENCE
Both teams have significant firepower up forward, so a good old-fashioned shootout is on the cards.

OTHER GRADES
In Week One of the WAFL Reserves Finals Series, Subiaco will meet East Perth on neutral turf at Provident Financial Oval. Bounce down is at 11:00am on Sunday, September 20.

The League Women’s will do battle with Peel Thunder this Saturday, September 19 for Premiership glory in the WAFLW competition. Bouncedown for this clash will be at 2:40pm.
