2019 OPTUS WAFL PREMIERSHIP SEASON

ROUND 20

SUBIACO 18.12.120 defeated EAST PERTH 8.5.53

Subiaco continued its recent hold over East Perth with a dominant display at Leederville Oval, battling the cold to run out eventual 67-point winners in the Round 20 fixture. After a fairly even first half; Subiaco put East Perth to the sword after the main break, kicking 11.5 to a paltry 4.5 from East Perth. Led by major ball winner Lachlan Delahunty (32 disposals, 15 hitouts, 1 goal) and solid contributions in the midfield from Kyal Horsley (23 disposals, 5 tackles, 1 goal) and Max Walters (22 disposals, 1 goal) Subiaco’s scoring prowess proved too much, as they won the inside 50 count 50 to 32.

East Perth remained in touching distance of the Lions for the first half, thanks to their accuracy in front of goal, kicking 4 goals straight to Subiaco’s 7.7. If it wasn’t for a few squandered opportunities, the game could have been sewn up at half time.

Ben Sokol tore the East Perth backline apart thanks in part the quality ball use of the Lions midfield and while he booted 6 majors to go with 13 marks for the day, he could’ve kicked an even more considerable tally if not for his inaccuracy, finishing with 6.5.

Alongside Sokol, Ryan Borchet finished with five goals to his name along with 6 marks of his own as the Lions poured on the pressure with 30 scoring shots to 13 across the match.

2019 OPTUS WAFLW PREMIERSHIP SEASON

ROUND 2

SUBIACO 4.5.29 defeated EAST FREMANTLE 1.2.8

Subiaco met East Fremantle earlier this season for their Round 2 clash at New Choice Homes Park, restricting the Sharks to just one goal and winning comfortably by 21 points.

Last year’s reigning WAFLW premiers were no match for the Lions who kicked three unanswered goals to start the first term. The Sharks managed to put 1.2 on the board during the second quarter but were unable to add to that tally as the Lions proved too strong, running out 4.5.29 to 1.2.8 victors. Lara Filocamo was best afield, aided by Jayme Harken, with Danika Pisconeri providing valuable support also.

Charlie Thomas, Ellie Blackmore, Taylisha Brown and Tayla Thorogood did the damage on the scoreboard, all booting a major each.
