WAFLW Match Preview v East Fremantle

Wednesday, July 22, 2020 - 12:46 PM

After Subiaco’s round one clash that resulted in Subiaco claiming victory by two-points, the Subiaco WAFLW team now travel to New Choice Homes Park to clash with reigning premiers East Fremantle on Sunday 26 July at 2.15pm.

Form
Subiaco finished the 2019 WAFLW season as minor premiers but ended up losing to Swan Districts in the preliminary final giving them plenty of motivation to bring into 2020, and while they did start with a win, they sure had to earn it, recording a win in a nail-bitter against Claremont in wet conditions at Leederville Oval.

Opponents Form
History was made on Sunday afternoon at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with the first-ever derby played in the WAFL Women's competition, but it was East Fremantle who proved too strong romping to the 88-point victory. It might have been more than 10 months since East Fremantle beat Swan Districts to win last year's Grand Final to claim the premiership, but the Sharks continued the momentum into Sunday's derby at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

Where it’s won
The sharks kicked 14 goals against South Fremantle, with 18 scoring shots, going at 78% accuracy. The Lions will need to make sure to limit the influence of the East Freo forwards, with seven-goal scorers on the weekend, including a four goal-haul by former Subi player Sara Lewis.

Other grades
Subiaco Reserves clash with East Fremantle at 12.15pm, while Subiaco Rogers Cup will bouncedown at 10.30am the same day of Sunday 26 July at New Choice Homes Park.
