Meet Subiaco's State Squad Members

Subiaco has eight players in line for selection in Sunday’s WAFL versus SANFL state match as Western Australia and South Australia contest for the Haydn Bunton Junior Cup.

 

Five of Subiaco’s eight representatives have played in winning state games before while the three potential debutants have become standouts across the entire WAFL competition.

KYAL HORSLEY

4 State Game Appearances (2008, 2010, 2017, 2018)

 

Subiaco veteran Kyal Horsley is in line for his fifth state game, having been a part of four previous WA sides. Horsley’s standing within WA football has been confirmed after being the captain of the last two winning WA sides, the captain of the historic 2017 team that beat Victoria in Melbourne and then backing up by winning against South Australia in Adelaide.

 

Horsley was selected to the WA state side for 2019 after another standout start to the year. Horsley is averaging just under 30 disposals a game including a season high of 36 in Round One. Horsley has been influential around the ball through the midfield and leads Subiaco in forward 50 entries. While no longer captain of the club, Horsley has continued to have a strong influence as a respected leader amongst the group.

 

 

LEIGH KITCHIN

4 State Game appearances (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018)

After playing in four state games Subiaco’s Leigh Kitchin is in line for his fifth state game. Kitchin has been influential in the first five rounds for Subiaco this season averaging just above 20 disposals a game.  As captain of the Subiaco football club in 2019 and previous vice-captain Kitchin has strong leadership skills which have a positive impact on the team both on and off field. 

 

Kitchin is in line to represent the state in 2019 after his strong elite performance in the midfield at the start of 2019 and in previous seasons. In 2018, Kitchin achieved a career high of 37 disposals in round 12. Kitchin will be looking to show his strong midfield performance again in this year’s state team. 

 

  

LACHLAN DELAHUNTY

3 State games (2015 2017,2018)

 

After already representing WA in three previous state games Lachlan Delahunty will once again represent WA in Sundays match.  One of the best mobile big men in the WAFL, Delahunty has averaged 25 disposals per game in the first five rounds of 2019. 

 

Delahunty has had a strong impact of the Subiaco football club since relocating from Victoria in 2014 with 66 career goals. After a successful l five seasons previous to 2019 at the lions Delahunty has been able to show his strong ability as both a ruckman and forward playing some of his career best footy in 2018 averaging around 23 disposals a game with a career high of 35 disposals in round 19 last year.

 

 

JORDAN LOCKYER

1 state game appearance (2017)

 

Jordan Lockyer previously representing WA in one state game in 2017 has been selected once again to represent Western Australia against South Australia.  After averaging just above 14 disposals per game, Lockyer has been strong in Subiaco’s backline. 

 

Lockyer who has currently played 85 career games has a strong ability to get the ball out of the opponents forward 50 fast and efficiently.  With Lockyers strong marking hands and efficient use of the ball he will be one to watch. 

 

 

ANGUS LITHERLAND

1 state game appearance (2018)

 

After representing WA in 2018 Angus Litherland will represent WA again in 2019.  As a half back Litherland has been able to use the ball effectively averaging 16 disposals per game this season.

 

Litherland has been an influential part of Subiaco’s defensive group since returning to WAFL football with Subiaco in 2017.  His strong ability as  defender in Subiaco’s backline allowed the team to go through the 2018 season undefeated.  Litherland will be sure to make an impact representing WA once again.

 

 

HAYDEN KENNEDY

No previous State Game Appearance

 

Hayden Kennedy has had a strong start in the 2019 season averaging above 21 disposals a game. With Kennedys strength and strong ball use off half back he is a influential player with Subiaco’s defensive group.  The impact Kennedy makes has been evident meaning he has been selected to represent the state.

 

Representing WA for the first time since making his League debut in 2014, and being a part of the 2018 leadership group he will be sure to show his experience and ability.

 

 

BEN SOKOL

No previous State Game Appearance

 

As a key forward Ben Sokol has been influential in Subiaco’s first five wins of the 2019 season. His consistent football and strong marking hands has allowed him to be selected to represent WA state team this year. 

 

Averaging 16 disposals per game and strong kicking efficiency kicking 133 goals in his 69 games Sokol ability to dispose of the ball efficiently and effectively have assisted Subiaco to win their first five games of 2019.  Sokols ability to take big marks have impacted the game immensely during his time at the club.

 

 

JOSH DELUCA

No previous State Game Appearance

 

In this week’s state game Josh Deluca will represent WA for the first time. Since re-joining Subiaco in 2018 after three seasons with Fremantle Deluca has a strong impact as an inside midfield. Averaging 27 disposals per game Deluca’s ability to move the ball effectively will be one to watch.

 

Deluca’s fast and efficient use of the ball will be sure to be influential whilst representing the state.  After playing consistent football over the past couple of years and continuing to do so Delucas selection into the 2019 state team is well deserved.
