Nine Subiaco Players in WA State Squad

Subiaco has had a league leading nine players selected in the initial 31 man state squad to play in the 2019 Western Australian versus South Australia state game.

Five of the Subiaco players who helped defeat South Australia last year have made the squad again with potentially three new state players in the mix for Subiaco.

Josh Deluca, Hayden Kennedy and Ben Sokol are all in line to make state debuts after becoming crucial playmakers of the Subiaco side in recent seasons.

Sokol was close to a debut last year after being named in the initial squad and a year after winning the Austin Robertson Medal as Subiaco’s leading goal kicker, he has again been the standout target forward for the Lions.

Kennedy has become one of the WAFL’s best small defenders mixing an ability to rebound from behind as well as win one on one match-ups. On top Kennedy has shown considerable leadership, becoming a respected young leader within the Subiaco playing group.

Deluca likewise has become one of the WAFL’s best inside midfielders, showing an ability to win clearances and contested ball. After spending three seasons on Fremantle’s list, Deluca has become one of Subiaco’s most damaging midfielders over the past two seasons.

These potential three new debutants are in line to join Leigh Kitchin, Kyal Horsley, Angus Litherland, Rhys Waters and Lachlan Delahunty who were part of the 2018 squad that beat South Australia in Adelaide.

The ninth member of the squad is Jordan Lockyer who had to withdraw due to injury a year ago, but appears set to lock down a key defensive post for West Australia when they battle South Australia at Optus Stadium later in the month.

Subiaco congratulates all nine of its representatives in the 2019 WA State Squad.
