Around The Ground Recap Round Three

Tuesday, April 23, 2019 - 5:33 AM

Subiaco held its Annual Family Fun Day and City Of Vincent Match as part of Good Friday football at Leederville Oval.

The annual Good Friday game has become one of Subiaco’s marquee matches of the year and the ability to combine the event with both the City Of Vincent as well as Family Fun Day represented an outstanding opportunity for Subiaco to show its community reach.

Subiaco’s district junior clubs of Balga, Carine, Kingsley, Kingsway, Stirling, Sorrento-Duncraig and Warwick-Greenwood were all represented during Saturday’s game day, with the next generation of Subiaco players parading pre-match at Leederville Oval.

The junior players made a special guard of honour pre-match with Subiaco running onto the field through this group of youngsters.

To help support Family Fun Day, the Holman Kids Zone was set up on the Northern Bank with boys and girls able to attempt to win a Subiaco branded footy by trying their luck at a number of different footy activities.

A kicking cube, “Bin It To Win It”, handball target and football goals were set up, with this area supported by the Subiaco Colts players who were there to teach the young participants the finer art of football skills.

As well as footballs being given away, all kids who visited the team store received a complimentary Subiaco team poster and Subiaco sticker.

Around the ground Community News own Mr Newsie was on hand, giving out yo-yos as another special gift to match day attendees to Leederville Oval, with Bupa also represented on the day around the ground and in the Kids Zone.

In the spirit of Easter, a number of eggs were hidden around the ground to be found, with more Easter eggs being given out at the gate entry as part of the Subiaco Good Friday raffle.

At quarter time and three quarter time kids competitions were run on field, while at half time Sorrento-Duncraig were represented in both the Little League game and Auskick mini match that took place on field, allowing young boys and girls to play on Leederville Oval.

A special group of Subiaco guests were entertained on the Corporate Deck with a special Good Friday cocktail lunch and drinks, with all Junior Club Presidents, selected District Representatives joining Subiaco’s key sponsors.

At half time in the Boardroom, Clint Byrne from Bupa spoke to the afternoon tea guests on the new partnership between Subiaco Football Club and Bupa with the Gate Raffle also drawn at this event.

Throughout the day Subiaco also ran an innovative new concept of Subi Game Day, a live stream that focused on the club’s engagement efforts, kids activities, volunteers of the club and provided those that could not make the game with analysis of the Subiaco game.

Some of the key past players and officials that were seen around the ground during Good Friday included premiership winning coach Jarad Schofield, Andrew McDougall, Todd Holmes, Scott Ward, Scott Worthington, Robbie Forrest, Brad Lohoar, Sean Bradley and Jeff Lind.

While the wet weather and the fact the AFL played two games on Good Friday, including a match at Optus Stadium affected crowd numbers, the overall engagement on the day made it another outstanding success for the Subiaco Football Club.
