Wednesday, April 17, 2019 - 4:07 PM

Back for 2019, this is By The Numbers, all the key statistics, numbers and figures from Subiaco’s league action each week.

Last weekend saw a historic achievement by the Subiaco defence, while Kyal Horsley, Greg Clark and Ben Sokol all feature.

Plus find out two special streaks, one achieved by the new Subiaco captain Leigh Kitchin and one team streak that stretches back to July 2017.

0

POINTS – For the sixth time in history, Subiaco held East Fremantle scoreless in an opening quarter. The last time Subiaco achieved that defensive feat was back in 1960. Historically, this was the first time that Subiaco had held East Fremantle scoreless in an opening quarter at East Fremantle Oval.

3

GOALS – Rhys Waters bagged three goals for the game, and has now kicked multiple goals in his last three matches dating back to last year’s Grand Final. Waters has kicked a goal in 10 straight games, making it a career long goal kicking streak.

9

TACKLES – Kyal Horsley and Greg Clark led Subiaco on Saturday with nine tackles. After having just one tackle in round one, it was a rebound to the norm for Horsley, while for Clark, his nine tackles were one off an equal career high at league level.

10

SCORING SHOTS – Subiaco held East Fremantle to just 10 scoring shots in Saturday’s contest. Subiaco’s defence was historically miserly last year, and has continued in the same vain in 2019. Dating back to Round 17 of last year, Subiaco has conceded just 96 scoring shots, at an average of just 12 scoring shots per game.

13

CLEARANCE DIFFERENTIAL – Despite losing the hit-out battle on the weekend, 49-42, Subiaco was still able to dominate around the clearances, finishing plus 13, 46-33. Captain Kitchin had 11 clearances to lead the way while fellow midfielders Craig Hoskins and the returning Max Walters each had six.

15

KICKS – Subiaco forward Ben Sokol had 15 disposals in Saturday’s contest, all kicks. The power forward finished with 15 disposals, seven marks and a goal. That one goal maintained Sokol’s career best streak of a goal in every game, which now stands at 16.

20

DISPOSAL STREAK – Subiaco captain Leigh Kitchin racked up his 20th straight game with at least 20 disposals, finishing Saturday’s contest with 27 disposals, including a game high 20 contested disposals. Kitchin’s streak dates back to Round 3 of 2018 and is the longest of his Subiaco career. Meanwhile fellow midfielder and former captain Kyal Horsley was amassed a 23 game streak with at least 20 disposals.

32

QUARTER WIN STREAK – A lot was made of Subiaco winning every third quarter in 2018, the first team to win a single quarter in every game for an entire season. That streak has now stretched to 30 games, after Subiaco has won its two third quarters of 2019 so far. The last time Subiaco lost a third quarter was Round 15 of 2017 against West Perth.

213

POINTS FOR – While Subiaco’s defence has won most plaudits after a stellar start to the season holding two opponents to under 50 points, worth noting that Subiaco have maintained their standing as the number one attacking side, a title they held throughout the 2018 season averaging 106 points per game in 2019 so far.
