Subiaco Make First Trip of 2019 To Battle East Fremantle

Friday, April 12, 2019 - 10:00 AM

Subiaco make their first trip of the 2019 WAFL season, visiting East Fremantle Oval to take on East Fremantle in Round Two.

After a first up win against East Perth, Subiaco will look to maintain their early season form against a side that was predicted to be one of the big improvers of the 2019 season.

Subiaco will make two forced changes to last week’s team that defeated East Perth with both Clancy Wheeler and Ben Newton going out due to injury.

Their replacements will come from a group of five that includes Kaidyn Fullgrabe, Max Walters, Simon Moore and potential Subiaco debutants Jack Mayo and Travis Cleggett.

Due to the limited new WAFL broadcast schedule, Subiaco’s game will not be covered on either radio or television.

Keep tuned to Subiaco’s social media accounts for regular updates.

GAME CHANGERS

DIFFERING ENDS OF ATTACK

Small sample size, but in Round One last weekend, Subiaco had the best performing attack of the Round, while East Fremantle were the lowest scoring team. Subiaco’s own miserly defence was solid in an opening round win and will be keen to continue their strong form by limiting the attack of East Fremantle.

FAST STARTERS

Subiaco produced the best Round One first quarter in club history last weekend, effectively ending the contest against East Perth in the first quarter. Last weekend, East Fremantle arguably produced their best football in the opening quarter, matching one of the premiership fancies in Claremont. Expect the team that can make the fast start to control momentum.

MORE POSSIBLE DEBUTS

After Jack Beverley and Harry Marsh debuted for the club last week, young utility Jack Mayo and hard running midfielder Travis Cleggett have been named in an extended 25 man squad. Despite playing in the past five WAFL Grand Finals, Subiaco has proven a club that is prepared to present opportunities. Last year they had 11 debutants and under new coach Beau Wardman it appears the theme of providing opportunities will continue.

OPPONENT FORM

Subiaco has won 10 of its past 11 games against East Fremanlte, including four straight games at East Fremantle Oval. The average winning margin in those 10 wins has been 56 points per game, with the four East Fremantle Oval wins coming at an average of 69 points per game.

FIXTURE QUIRK

Interestingly, Subiaco’s last away game, aside from the Grand Final held at Optus Stadium, was down at East Fremantle as well. In Round 20 last year, Subiaco recorded a 91 point win, completing a perfect 8-0 record in away games for the year.

OTHER GRADES

The early game of Saturday’s action is a must see one, as the newly branded Futures of East Fremantle and Subiaco go head to head. Both teams have won their first four games and sit comfortably at the top of the Futures ladder. Expect this one to be worth getting to East Fremantle Oval early for. In the other game on Saturday, Subiaco’s Reserves will look to maintain their winning start to 2019. The Colts game will take place back at East Fremantle Oval on the Sunday.
