By The Numbers - Round 7, 2018

Tuesday, May 22, 2018 - 11:44 AM

It was another big win for Subiaco as they made it six wins from six games so far in 2018 with a big 92 point win over Peel in a Grand Final Rematch clash.

There were goals a plenty, from likely and unlikely sources, there were big possession games, big stat differences and a big scoreboard difference.

But one thing remained consistent. The unusual dominance that Subiaco has held over Peel in Round 7 matches.

GOALS – Both Hayden Kennedy and Greg Clark kicked their second career goals at WAFL league level in Saturday’s game. Kennedy’s was his second for the year, after not kicking one in the four seasons prior, while Clark has now kicked both of his goals to the northern end of Rushton Park.

NEW FACES - Subiaco had seven new players in the Grand Final Replay as opposed to the Grand Final of last year, with these seven being Rhys Waters, Ben Newton, Greg Clark, Zac Clarke, Jacob Miller, Braden Fimmano and Drew Rohde. By comparison, Peel had just 8 players from the 2017 Grand Final side in their team on Saturday, with 14 new faces.

UNANSWERED GOALS – Between the 20 minute mark of the second quarter and 10 minute mark of the last quarter Subiaco kicked 14 unanswered goals, with the match won and decided throughout this run. Before Subiaco kicked their sixth goal the margin was just four points. By the time Peel kicked their sixth goal, some 50 minutes of game time later, the margin was out to 93 points.

41

POSSESSIONS – For the second straight week Kyal Horsley created a new career high, while also topping 40 possessions. After failing to get 40 possessions in his first 166 games, Horsley has hit a purple patch with back to back 40 possession games. You have to go back to the 1980’s to find the last time that feat was achieved by a Subiaco player.

61

INSIDE 50S – Subiaco recorded a season best 61 Inside 50’s against Peel on Saturday. While their conversion say slightly below their season average at 56% this was a significant difference in recent matches with Subiaco a plus 28 in this category for the game.

88

GOAL KICKING ACCURACY – Brad Stevenson maintains a five goal advantage in the Bernie Naylor Medal race, having now kicked 22 goals for the year. With another three goals straight at the weekend, Stevenson is now converting at the incredible average of 88% having recorded 22.3 over the season.

POINTS – Saturday marked the first time in 11 matches that Subiaco had passed 100 points against Peel, with the last time they had done that being in Round 8 of 2015 when they kicked 16.16.112. Interestingly, the last time that Peel kicked 100 points against Subiaco, was way back in Round 23 of 2012.
