Subiaco List Update

Wednesday, November 15, 2017 - 6:30 PM

With pre-season training set to resume, Subiaco is finalising another productive off-season as the club strives to improve its on-field team to ensure that the Lions remain a competitive side in the 2018 WAFL competition.

After falling in the Grand Final of the last two WAFL seasons, Subiaco has embarked on a retention and recruitment campaign that ensures the competitive balance of the team throughout the entire 2018 season.

11 key players have been officially re-signed and 18 players have been added to the Subiaco squad for this coming pre-season with a mix of returning players, new recruits and second chance players added to the squad.

Eight former Subiaco players have committed to a return to the club ahead of the commencement of pre-season, highlighted by the return of former AFL player and Subiaco premiership player Josh Deluca. Joining Deluca in returning is 2014 premiership teammate Rhys Waters.

Other returning players include local product players Sean Bradley, Luke Norriss, Andy Doyle and Andrew Vawser as well as former Subiaco league players Hayden Yarran and Tom Smith.

New recruits to the club in 2018 will include Jakob Atkinson coming from Boulder, Casey Brown coming from North Fremantle, Travis Cleggett coming from Collie and Josh Porteous coming from Donnybrook.

Subiaco’s proven experience to offer league football opportunities and in providing second chances to players has allowed the club to again compliment their current recruitment with David Ehlers, Matthew Ehlers, Jack Fletcher, Kaidyn Fullgrabe and Lewis Krakouer committing to their first Subiaco pre-seasons.

Alongside Deluca, Ben Newton is the other former AFL listed player set to join Subiaco in 2018.

This list of recruits are joined by nine experienced league players and two young guns in re-signing for 2018. Premiership players Clancy Wheeler, Lachlan Delahunty, Declan Jackson, Hayden Kennedy, Jordan Lockyer and Scott Hancock along with Justin Joyce, Ben Sokol and Max Walters are all committed for 2018.

Youngsters and reserves premiership players Michael Braut and Ryan Borchet have also shown their loyalty to the Lions in staying on for 2018. Subiaco expects to announce another wave of re-signings in the next fortnight.

So far Subiaco has only one confirmed departure with Fraser Foley making a move to West Perth.

This list of departures will likely grow next Friday however with league players Liam Ryan and Liam Baker; reserves premiership players Kyron Hayden and Brayden Ainsworth, along with key position prospect Ben Miller all in with a strong chance of being drafted to the AFL. Smokies to be selected on draft day include Kyle Halligan, Max Walters and Liam Hickmott.

Subiaco players will return to pre-season training in a staggered approach over the next month before ramping up their campaign for 2018 in December and January.
