Hutchinson & Miller added to Life Members

One of the most important nights of the year for the Subiaco Football Club was held in May, with the club officially recognising its two newest Life Members at the Life Member Reunion.

Club stalwarts Bret Hutchinson and Paul Miller had their nominations for Life Membership unanimously accepted at last year’s Annual General Meeting with the presentation of their Life Member Badges occurring at this most recent reunion.

Miller, who played 104 league games for Subiaco between 1992 and 1998, was a tough and hardworking player who dedicated his playing career to self-improvement. Across all three grades Miller played 213 games in over 10 years of dedicated service. Following his playing career Miller has also had stints in assisting the clubs talent and development programs, very much being a hands on and active person around the club.

Life Member and former teammate of Miller, Rod Willett gave a heartfelt speech when welcoming Miller to the Life Member’s club highlighting the great team player that Miller was across his playing time with Subiaco.

Hutchinson, unfortunately could not attend the event however was welcomed by another life member in Kevan Sparks who read a touching speech from Hutchinson about his time involved at the Subiaco Football Club.

Hutchinson played 105 games between 1987 and 1993, becoming a premiership player as part of the club’s 1988 premiership success. Hutchinson was the best first year player in 1987 and remained involved at the club after his playing career as a runner, assistant coach, selector and most recently board member.

Over 40 of the club’s 95 living life members were in attendance at the function stretching from the oldest living life member in Ronald ‘Chick’ Jackman to the youngest person in the room in Ben Keevers. This year is also significant in seeing club patron Kevin Merrifield become the longest serving living life member of the club.

Life Members were treated to a well-received meal courtesy of club sponsors Topolini’s Caffe with club chief executive officer Peter Capes handling MC duties for the event.

Overall this was regarded as another successful life member’s reunion event.
