PREVIEW: Round 20 vs West Perth
Thursday, 04 August 2016
Subiaco face West Perth in a crucial late season clash at Kingsway Reserve.
The Lions are two games clear on top but need a win against the Falcons to clinch a first round bye in the finals.
The Falcons have been in-form over the last month with four consecutive wins and sit third on the WAFL ladder.
Subi have found some form themselves over the last two rounds with strong wins against South Fremantle and Swan Districts. SFC Captain Kyal Horsley stated the importance of building momentum into September.
“Momentum is important, the competition is so tight this year and the fact we’re two games clear isn’t a proper reflection on how close the teams actually are.” said Horsley
“All of the premiership contenders are looking to take momentum into the finals so we have to be sharp.”
The Lions will welcome back the return of Adam Cockie who increases the midfield to full strength. Subiaco will have to be sharp in the middle to overcome the prolific trio of Aaron Black, Shane Nelson and Rohan Kerr.
Young winger Greg Clark and 2014 Premiership forward Rhys Waters have also been named in the side to take on West Perth.

BATTLE IN THE MIDDLE
The return of Adam Cockie has Subiaco’s midfield well poised to get on top of West Perth. Chris Phelan, Craig Hoskins and Leigh Kitchin have been in great form and Kyal Horsley’s comeback against the Swans added great balance to the Lions followers. The Falcons on-ballers have found some form themselves but the Lions should have the firepower to negate their effect.
This game will undoubtedly be full of fire. Both sides fancy themselves heading towards the finals and a win this late in the season is crucial for confidence. If the Lions win, first place is there’s and they get a rest in the first round. If the Falcons win they can over-take South Fremantle and keep their chances of first place alive.
Subi are taking the game to their districts and will play at the Kingsway Junior Football Club.
This will be the 4th WAFL game at Kingsway Reserve, Wanneroo, all involving West Perth, with the Falcons losing twice to East Perth in 1991 and 1992, but defeating Subiaco by 50 points in the first game at the ground back in round 4 1989.
