- Monday, 25 July 2016
27-year-old Yarran was named in the Fremantle side mid-week and became the 54th Subiaco drafted player to play AFL football.
Hours later journeyman Sam Menegola became the 55th after he received news that he would be making his debut for Geelong with a late scratch of Zac Smith.
Yarran played against Gold Coast in the mid-day game and displayed an immediate impact in the Freo forward line. The mercurial forwards' agility and leap were on full display despite the Dockers losing by four goals.
Yarran finished with two set shot goals and almost took a huge mark in the second quarter on the goal line.
“You don’t really know until you go out there and you experience it.”
“It was really tough but it was really exciting and I enjoyed every bit of it.” Said Yarran to Fremantle FC.
Shane Yarran celebrates with Fremantle team-mates Michael Walters and Lachie Neale.
Late inclusion Sam Menegola was the talk of the town after gathering 26 touches in Geelong’s top 4 clash with the Adelaide Crows. Menegola impressed from the first bounce and made the most of his first game after working six hard years for it.
Both players are expected to stay in their sides’ best 22s after strong first performances.Fremantle are looking to give players opportunities and Yarran’s ability as a forward helps them heading towards the end of the season.
