SFC 2016: Pre-Season v Swan Districts
- Saturday, 05 March 2016
The Lions had a sluggish start but over-ran the Swans 14.10 94 to 18.10 118.
Despite trailing for three quarters Subi blew the Swans away with quick ball movement and silky finishing in the last.
Leigh Kitchin, Chris Phelan and Brett Mahoney also had strong showings. The versatile mids racked up possession and all scored majors.
Youngster Andy Doyle was used in a ruck partnership with Dave Madut and worked alongside the usual followers (Kitchin, Phelan, Mahoney, Hoskins).

Aaron Heal was introduced to rest Hayden Kennedy and Chris Phelan replaced Kyal Horsley. Adam Cockie was also an omission due to a MRP suspension.
19 year old midfielder Max Walter’s role was heightened in the absence of Horsley-Cockie and the WA State Nationals midfielder delivered. Walters has a knack for winning contested ball and worked well amongst Subiaco’s best on-ballers.
Veteran defender Greg Broughton had a solid start before suffering a shoulder injury in the first quarter. The ex-Gold Coast Sun took a knock to his left shoulder didn’t return. Scans will be required to assess the extent of the injury.
The Lions now look to Peel for Round One of the McDonalds WAFL Season. Subiaco play the Thunder at Bendigo Bank Stadium next Saturday at 2:15.
