SFC 2015: Grand Final Preview
Thursday, 24 September 2015
Subiaco are set for their seventh WAFL Grand Final in ten years as they face West Perth at Domain Stadium on Sunday.
The 2013 champions West Perth will battle reigning champions Subiaco for WAFL supremacy. The two sides have met three times this year with the Lions winning two out of three.
Subiaco got on top in Round Four by 17 points and in the second semi final two weeks ago by 55 points.
The Falcons were one of only three teams to beat Subi in 2015 with a ten-point win at HBF Arena in Round 14.
Jarrad Schofield will coach the Lions into his second Grand Final at the helm and despite being heavy favourites; there will be no mercy from Subiaco’s end.
“It’s been a long time coming for the boys and there’s a great feel around the club, said Schofield
“It’s been my job to keep the excitement down and make sure the boys stay focused and ready to complete the job on Sunday.”
The Lions were able to rest up after destroying the Falcons at Medibank Stadium in the Second Semi.
After nine total top of the table clashes over a grueling six-month season Subiaco have earned the right to rest.
“We’ve had the luxury of a week off and it allowed us to rest and prepare,
“We were challenged every step of the way and had the rest of the competition gunning for us so the boys have earned the right to rest.”
Subiaco and West Perth have met in a total of four WAFL Grand Finals before with the Falcons leading the tally 3-1. The last time they met was in 2003 with West Perth winning by 23 points.
The Lions will look to get their second Grand Final triumph over the Cardies with the first coming in Subi’s 1973 breakthrough.
“The proof will be in the pudding this weekend. We didn’t start as well as we would have liked in the 2nd Semi so there’s room for improvement, added Schofield
“It will be all about getting our touch right and making sure the guys are feeling good about their game individually and as a team.
Our guys have been hardened over a long WAFL season and we’re all definitely looking forward to Sunday.”
