SFC 2015: Reserves PF Preview
Thursday, 17 September 2015
Subiaco’s reserves will face Swan Districts for the second time in three weeks on Sunday as they travel to HBF Arena in a do-or-die final.
The Lions narrowly got on top of the Swans in the Qualifying Final with a late surge lifting them above the third placed Swans.
This weekend’s game is expected to be equally as tight with both sides able to field sides bolstered with league talent.
Last week Subiaco fell to South Fremantle in the 2nd Semi by 47 points after a disappointing start. The Bulldogs got the jump on the Lions kicking nine goals to three in the first half.
Subi’s ressies fought back but left the battle too late; they’ll be hoping to take some of their second half momentum into the Swans sudden death final.
Simon Moore was outstanding for Subi with 28 touches and five marks; Matthew Bogensperger had 26 touches and Joel Latham 21.
Swan Districts got on top of West Perth after a slow start and cruised to a 33 point win.
Jason Daniels was best on ground for the black and white with 22 touches and a goal. Jake Nuich kicked four goals and league regular Rudy Riddoch was lively with two.

THE BIG STICKS
Subiaco struggled to score early against South Fremantle in the Second Semi but they had the opportunities. The Lions managed 3.7 at half time compared to the Bulldogs 9.5. South Fremantle simply kicked better and the reserves will have to take their chances to make back-to-back grand finals.
This time last year Rhys Waters was preparing for a crucial final against East Fremantle for Subi’s league side. Waters has had an inconsistent year with injury and is working his way back into form for the reserves. Waters had his best game of the year against the Dogs last week despite recording 1.3 in front of the goals.
LOWERING THE EYES
When the two sides met in the Qualifying Final the Lions butchered the ball entering the forward line early. Subi’s forward forays played into the hands of Swans defenders Nelson Ansey and Steven Wityk who rebounded with efficiency. The Lions twos will have to be clean with the ball to get away from the Swans and that lies with the midfield group to hit targets.
