Lions Back Home
- Friday, 05 June 2015
The Lions return home in Round 11 as East Fremantle travel to Medibank Stadium.
Subi are well poised to gather momentum in the second half of the season with a record of 7 and 1 after their double-bye. The Lions have been the dominant team of the league with their only lost to rivals East Perth in Round Four.
East Fremantle have been a dangerous, yet in-consistent side in 2015 and will look to put last week’s derby loss behind them. The Sharks sit 5-4 after blowing a four-goal lead to South Fremantle in the last quarter to lose by five points last week.
The two finals favourites have met once this year with the Lions blowing East out of the water in Round Two by 47 points.
Ex-Docker Sam Menegola is available and could don the maroon and gold for the first time this season against the Sharks on Saturday.
Shane Yarran kicked five goals in the Round Three win over the Sharks and maintained his dominant form with three goals against South Australia in the State fixture two weekend ago. Yarran leads the league in goal kicking with 30 from seven games, ten more than Claremont’s Jack Bradshaw.
The Lions will be ready for this one after enjoying a two-week break due to the State game. Subiaco had seven players represent Western Australia in the State fixture against South Australia and enter Round 11 with the healthiest list they’ve had all season. Despite missing Frank Stockley, Matthew Panizza and Brad Stevenson to long term injury the Lions list is in good shape for the business end of the WAFL season.
Subi have turned Medibank Stadium into a stronghold since re-locating in 2004 and East Freo have felt the brunt of this advantage. The Lions have played the Sharks 18 times at Medibank Stadium with Subi winning 14 of them. This includes last year’s preliminary final where Subi recorded a nail-biting five point win in the wet.
Subiaco are celebrating the influential females of the club with Round 11’s Ladies Day at Medibank Stadium. The club are hosting a function in the upstairs bar to treat the visiting ladies with tickets available here. Ladies Day is an initiative established by Events Coordinator Brooke Edwards and Bec Schofield. Remember to say thankyou to an important lady in your life, it’s not fun washing your smelly footy socks.
