SFC 2015: Round Three Preview

Subiaco will head into their annual Good Friday blockbuster against co-tenants East Perth full of steam after a roaring start to 2015.

The Lions have dismantled Claremont and East Fremantle in consecutive weeks and will now set their eyes on the West Coast affiliated Royals.

Both sides are situated in Leederville and continually combine for thrilling encounters at their Medibank Stadium home.

Last year the Lions earned bragging rights after topping East Perth in both regular season games by 24 and 28 points.

East Perth humbled the Lions in the second semi-final with a convincing 32-point win putting Subi on the brink of elimination.

The boys in maroon and gold had other ideas however, defeating East Fremantle and recording a date with the Royals for the 2014 Grand Final, an encounter that would un-predictably swing in favour of the under-dogs

With the Lions running out 16 point winners; damning East Perth to consecutive Grand Final losses, there’s no doubt the Royals will be looking for retribution on Good Friday.

GAME CHANGERS

DUAL CANONS
Subiaco have been kicking game winning totals despite missing two of their best forwards Matt Boland and Christopher Deluca. They’ve been able to do this by injecting Clancy Wheeler into a key forward role alongside the silky Shane Yarran. Wheeler and Yarran are atop the WAFL’s leading goal-kickers after two rounds with eight and ten respectively.

ROYAL CLASS
Subiaco face a challenge in the midfield as they face a Royals side loaded with skillful ball-winners. Ex-Carlton winger Kane Lucas has been prominent, Steven Payne has been busy and Garry Moss is a welcome return for East Perth. The only question is which side will Subi face; the Royals were blown away in their season opener against the Sharks but returned serve with a dominant win over the Swans in Round Two.

SON OF MUDDY
Subiaco will face the son of former head coach Chris Waterman, Alec, after he was drafted with pick #76 in the 2014 AFL National Draft. His father Chris was the senior coach at the Lions from 2009-2012 and led Subi to a Grand Final in 2011. Muddy's son was drafted to the West Coast Eagles and has been touted for his intellegent use of the football and speed off half back. It will be up to the Lions offensive pressure players to negate the exciting youngster.

QBE MAN OF THE MATCH:
The Subiaco Football Club will be running the QBE Man of the Match every week this season. Vote for your Subi player of the day this Good Friday and to win a signed Lions replica jersey and automatically enter a pool for the ultimate Lions fan experience. DETAILS
