Meet The Recruits: Leigh Kitchin
- Wednesday, 11 February 2015
Leigh Kitchin is set to shore up the Lions midfield stocks joining former Frankston team-mate Lachlan Delahunty.
Kitchin is the latest Victorian connection and comes with a wealth of experience after playing in three premierships for the Box Hill Hawks and establishing himself as a star extractor at the Dolphins.
The 24-year-old decided to make the move to Perth to open up his footballing opportunities and will look to follow in the footsteps of recent recruits Matt Boland and Lachlan Delahunty.
The inside midfielder could also ease the void left by Simpson medallist Jason Bristow who retired after winning the 2014 premiership.
Fellow Victorian recruit Brett Mahoney likened Kitchin to Lions champion Bristow and believes he could play a similar role.
"You're never going to get another Jason Bristow, but Kitch is a guy that will provide the same effort. He's a gritty inside midfielder who knows how to win the ball." said Mahoney
Mahoney knows this from a first hand experience where he directly played on Kitchin in the VFL's TAC cup a couple of years ago.
"I had to play on Kitchin in a TAC Cup game when I was playing in the VFL and he remembers me tagging him all game. It's good to have him on the other side now." added Mahoney
