On the Ball

The Subiaco Football club sadly said farewell to one of its true champions earlier this season.

Reg Hampson was 73 years old when he passed away in May but his name and his legacy (and his image) will live on at Subiaco.

Hampson is the 2014 Ball Legend. His glittering WAFL resume along with a photograph from his prime have been printed on the balls used at every Lions home game this season.

It’s a WAFL tradition that spans more than a decade.

In 2000 Subiaco named Haydn Bunton Jnr as its inaugural Ball Legend and this season saw Hampson selected as its 15th

Nominations for the Ball Legend are submitted to the Lions Board in October every year for endorsement.

Candidates are then judged on a host of criteria from their career as a player and the post-playing career with the Lions.
