Lions Honour Games Record Holder

680 games, 53 finals, 13 grand finals and 6 premierships over thirty WAFL seasons.QBE Insurance's principal partnership with the Subiaco Lions is the longest in state league and WA sport. To mark the milestone, fans will see a new look Subiaco side take to the field against Perth at Medibank Stadium this Saturday.

A special edition jumper has been designed for the game, incorporating the last 30 years of history including the stripes from 1984, the current design with the SFC logo in the centre and watermarked in the gold stripes all six Premiership years .

Through out 2014 the Lions have used a specially designed commemorative logo that acknowledges the long partnership with QBE.

“They'll be wearing it with pride, that's for sure." said Peter Capes, Subiaco's CEO.

"We’re proud to be associated with such a high profile company like QBE Insurance and I can see our partnership lasting long into the future.  Together, we're focussed on building a successful club that serves the community’s needs.” Capes said.

Both the Subiaco Football Club and QBE have been operating for over a century.

Peter Mclachlan, QBE's Regional Manager for WA/NT, said "Watching the team take to the field in the 1984 inspired guernsey is a fantastic way to celebrate the longest running sponsorship of both WA football and QBE Australia."

"We're extremely proud to be associated with such a committed club that shares our understanding of the value of teamwork, strong leadership, and of what this can make possible; something which has played a key role in the success of our partnership over the last 30 years." Mclachlan said.

Earlier this year, the Lions proudly announced that QBE Insurance had signed on to continue as the club’s principal partner for an additional three years, 2014 – 2016.

QBE is to be congratulated on being the longest serving principal partner of all WAFL Clubs.

"Having secured the new three year sponsorship, we look forward to continuing our long partnership with QBE and this special jumper and the day is a small way of acknowledging the Partnership." - Capes said

The partnership started in 1984 when Western Underwriters (now QBE) put up a $100,000 dollar incentive for the struggling Lions to make the finals that year.
Despite the club winning nine games, it failed to taste September action. The following season QBE upped the game, offering up $100,000 to make the finals and $200,000 to claim the flag. It was a two year period never to be forgotten.

Subiaco coach Haydn Bunton guided the team all the way to 1985 Grand Final.

12 months on and the Lions went a step further, thrashing East Fremantle by 11 goals and claimed to $200,000
The deal acted as a launching pad for the Lions and remarkable era followed that turned the club into what it is today.

Since QBE came to the party the Lions have made the finals in 22 of the 29 seasons for 6 premierships and currently sit firmly in the top four.

Join the Lions and QBE to celebrate this milestone. On the day the QBE Kids Zone will be set on the City End of Medibank Stadium and will feature footy activities from Jungle Sports, Bouncy Castle and the QBE Inflatable field, plus lots of prizes and giveaways on the day so make sure you stop by.
