Lions Fall to Falcons
- Saturday, 08 March 2014
Midfielder Simon Moore capitalized on a solid summer of running by out working his opponent and opened the scoring for the home side.
His check-side from the boundary was an early highlight before Matt Boland made a dream start at his new club.
The VFL recruit marked and converted with his first kick.
Subiaco 2. 3. 15
West Perth 3. 3. 21
Shane Yarran’s ability to read the ball in flight resulted in a mark and goal from 30 metres out.
Young gun Hayden Kennedy had to helped from the field after a solid contest in the middle of the ground. His day was cut short due to severely corked thigh.
Boland proved a handful for the Falcons defense but failed to convert an opportunity on the half time siren.
Chris Phelan was Subiaco’s major ball winner in the first half with 15 disposals while for West Perth Manzone, Antonio and Kerr all had it 12 times.
Subaco 4: 6: 30
West Perth 4: 3: 27
Subiaco wasted golden opportunities early through Rhys Waters and Boland before Yarran again found the middle.
Wayde Twomey’s used the ball well out of the backline but the Lions found themselves under plenty of red and blue pressure from the likes of Jordan Jones and Drew Rohde while Matt Johnson converted on the siren to extend the lead to three goals
Subiaco 5. 9. 39
West Perth 8.9 57
A series of Subiaco skill errors proved costly at the start of the final term while West Perth made the most of their opportunities.
Chris Phelan continues to rack up possessions finishing with 29 but it wasn’t enough as the reigning premiers stretched the final margin to 37 points.
